Bad venue, bad sound, bad show

Yesterday my friend and I went to see In Flames, Trivium, Devil Driver and Zao. My friend had met a very cool guy from Devil Driver and they got us free tix. The show was moved from Saltair to this place I’d never been to called Club Ice.

We stood outside in the cold for an hour after the doors were supposed to open. Then the venue was so small for the crowd it was about the worst fire code violation I’ve ever seen. There must have been 5000 people in a place that would hold 1000.

The whole venue is layed out terribly for watching a live band. You couldn’t see anything unless you got about 20 feet from the stage. I got that close and was nearly crushed by the pressure of thousands of people pushing. I’ve been fighting off a rib injrury and the pressure made it worse. I acutally stopped using the muscles in my legs and the pressure from the people around me kept me in the same position. Then I got thrown into the mosh pit. I’m too old for that stupid shit. Aren’t people there to see the frigging bands?

The sound was absolutely horrid. The low end was feeding back and the first band Zao was terrible.

Though we were there for free and had a friend in the 2nd band, my buddy and I decided just to leave. It was that bad.

Categories are cool

Since my switch from the dreaded blogger lame ass blogging software to WordPress I’m now able to take advantage of some new features here.

I’m now working on categorizing all the posts. I have 8 categories currently:

Boneheads: A category dedicated to stupid people and the things they do.
Gear: Recording gear, musicial instruments, computers or any gear I deal with.
Gigs: Stories about my gigs or other peoples gigs.
Random: A blanket category when nothing else works.
Rants: When shit pisses me off I use this category.
Recording: Recording studio war stories, recording techniques etc.
Uncategorized: Means I have yet to decide what category to put the post in.

Now some posts may have multiple categories. For example: A dumbass musician jumps on my stage and plays my drums. He’s drunk and he breaks my snare head and won’t get away from my kit. That post alone could be a combined boneheads, gear, gigs, musicians and rants. I can already see that the boneheads and musicians categories will be selected together many times.

I’m about 25% of the way through categorizing the old posts so be patient.

Bye bye blogger… YOU SUCK!

Welcome to the fresh new Pro Sound Blog! I started having some feed problems a while back. Then I all the sudden had a 404 error on my main page. But the damn file was there and it checked out ok. Add that to the fact that it seems like I’ve spent half my blogging life waiting for the frigging blogger page while it says “publishing…. publishing…. publishing….” for fucking ever.

I’m now done with blogger. I’ve moved the site’s location to the root of this server and I’m now running WordPress. WP is the best blogging software out there. It is elegant and fast. It’s so much faster than blogger.

So there you go. I’ve spent this evening figuring out how to get all the posts from blogger to WordPress. Not too hard. I managed to salvage the comments too.

I look forward to much more blogging about drums, rock and roll, music, recording and dumbass musicians.

Peace

Comcast=bait and switch

I had some pretty hard comcast ranting earlier this year when I had problems with their customer service (or lack thereof). Here we go again.

I moved about 2 months ago into a new place. I needed to transfer my Comcast internet and TV service so I called them. They told me I’d have to get my account up to date before the move. No problem, until the told me the amount…

When I inquired about signing up for their service I told them I was using DirecTV and another company for DSL. My DTV bill was about $75/month and my DSL was only $15/month. The Comcast salesman said they had a package that would blow both of those away at $69/month for digital cable and high speed internet. Wow, sign me up!

But when I moved they informed me that my bill for the last two months was in the $300 range. How the hell can it be $300 when you’re paying $69/month for two months? $69×2=$300? It was at that time (about a month ago) that they informed me my comcast bill was close to $150/month. I nearly lost my mind. They just doubled my price with no notification?

I’m happy with the speed of the internet on comcast, but the digital cable frankly sucks compared to DTV. So there’s no way I’d want to pay MORE for an inferior product. I argued with the billing department for about a hour about what my price should have been. They agreed that they’d switch me back to the $69 as long as I paid about $250 to get my account up to date. They wouldn’t retroactively fix my pricing. They’d only agree to sign me up on a special rate for the next 3 months IF I paid the $250.

Ok, fine… I agreed to do that for the next three months, at which time I’d most likely switch to a different provider.

So I talk to Comcast on the phone today about my service not working. They inform me that my current balance is $245? HOW THE HELL can my balance be $245 when a month ago I got it all squared up and I’m paying $69 bucks a month???

Turns out that they never implemented the f’ing special rate last time I talked to them on the phone. So I’m STILL being billed close to $150/month for services they told me I’d be getting for $69. I explain this to the current billing person and he checks the notes in the computer. Sure enough he finds the notes from the last phone call and confirms that yes, my rate SHOULD have been $69.

I say ok, then knock my charges from last month down to where they should be. He says he can’t go back and change it because the database wouldn’t let him. But he’s willing to sign me up at the special rate of $69/month for the next three months. Is this a broken record?

I raise hell with this guy but he won’t budge. He says I can get the new rate starting TODAY but have to pay the other rate for last month. This is bullshit. I’m sick of these ass holes doing this. And the nerve of the guy on the phone who said “well, you’ll be paying the higher rate in 3 months anyway so what’s the difference?” What’s the difference? About $75/month. I told him that in 3 months I didn’t know if I’d be dead or living in Panama….

Comcast sucks. Their TV quality sucks. Their customer service sucks. Comcast are bait and switch ass holes.

Disturbed’s David Draiman comes up with the quote of the year

David Draiman (Disturbed) has a great music business quote which I saw on the “on demand” section of music choice. I just about rolled out of my chair laughing. This dude is absolutely brilliant.
