Last night was the first gig I’ve had bashing the skins for about three weeks. I played a little too much golf last week or lifted something too heavy and tweaked my bad back. Sitting on a drum stool for three hours and putting all the balance and weight of your upper body on your bad lower back isn’t the best feeling thing in the world. Now I’m hurting bad today…

Big gig tonight
One of the biggest gigs of the year for one of my lesser known bands is tonight at the Utah Arts Festival. We had our biggest, most receptive crowd ever at this same gig last year.
A report will follow.
Watching a couple fight during the gig
Last night’s gig was a typical one. I bash the shit out of the drums while watching the people in the audience. I check out the strange people, the hot chicks, the drunk assholes…
Last night there was a guy and a girl having a fight. It was very funny. She was a bit drunk and not talking to the guy. He kept trying to talk to her and she was hitting him and pushing him away. This happened all freaking night. If I was the guy I would have just left the dumb drunk chick there and gone home…
Thanks for the bass amp
Our female bass player had some friends who loaned her a bass amp for this gig. The stupid thing wouldn’t even turn on…. Thanks for the favor.
I guess I have a price. I can be bought. I’m a media slut.
I started the shooting of a rap video today…
Nuggets from the last gig
The gig a couple of nights ago in this new club was a bust. The club itself was decent. There was a decent PA, the bartender/manager was an old pal. But being a last minute gig, nobody knew we were there. Looks like the band may get to open for English Beat later this month which would be cool.
Bad stats:
1. There were more people in the green room than in the audience.
2. There were more mics on my drum kit than people in the audience.
3. I think the club actually lost money on liquor, since there was more free beer consumed in the green room than the club sold.
4. “Zero” is the number of gigs the soundman had done before this one.
5. “45” is the number of minutes it took said soundman to get the PA working for a 3 piece band (followed by our singer’s comment: “can we start playing this week sometime?”
I won’t mind playing there again, provided there’s a crowd.
