PRO SOUND BLOG FORUM IS BACK!

Hello fellow musicians and friends! It has been since September 2005 that the Pro Sound Blog Forum has been running. A hacker brought the site down completely. I had the same thing happen to two other forums I ran on the same forum software. One forum was quite large and I HAD to figure out how to recover it.

Long story short, I’ve recovered all the users and posts and installed a different forum software that is less “popular” and hopefully less prone to hacking. The only items missing are most likely attached image files and avatars so you’ll need to reload them. Other than that all is working! I’ll be working to make the “look” into something better down the road.

This board was never the biggest on the web, but it was a great spot for some very talented and smart musicians to talk about their trade. So I invite you to come back to the forum and let’s get this board rolling again!

The forum is now in a new web location: https://forum.prosoundblog.com

Pro Sound Blog Forum May Return

I’ve now gotten rid of all the forum software on all my sites that runs on phpbb. I’m sick of them being hacked. I’ve got a new forum engine, and I can get a large portion of the Pro Sound Blog Forum back. I just might do it for the hell of it. Stay tuned.

Categories are cool

Since my switch from the dreaded blogger lame ass blogging software to WordPress I’m now able to take advantage of some new features here.

I’m now working on categorizing all the posts. I have 8 categories currently:

Boneheads: A category dedicated to stupid people and the things they do.
Gear: Recording gear, musicial instruments, computers or any gear I deal with.
Gigs: Stories about my gigs or other peoples gigs.
Random: A blanket category when nothing else works.
Rants: When shit pisses me off I use this category.
Recording: Recording studio war stories, recording techniques etc.
Uncategorized: Means I have yet to decide what category to put the post in.

Now some posts may have multiple categories. For example: A dumbass musician jumps on my stage and plays my drums. He’s drunk and he breaks my snare head and won’t get away from my kit. That post alone could be a combined boneheads, gear, gigs, musicians and rants. I can already see that the boneheads and musicians categories will be selected together many times.

I’m about 25% of the way through categorizing the old posts so be patient.

Bye bye blogger… YOU SUCK!

Welcome to the fresh new Pro Sound Blog! I started having some feed problems a while back. Then I all the sudden had a 404 error on my main page. But the damn file was there and it checked out ok. Add that to the fact that it seems like I’ve spent half my blogging life waiting for the frigging blogger page while it says “publishing…. publishing…. publishing….” for fucking ever.

I’m now done with blogger. I’ve moved the site’s location to the root of this server and I’m now running WordPress. WP is the best blogging software out there. It is elegant and fast. It’s so much faster than blogger.

So there you go. I’ve spent this evening figuring out how to get all the posts from blogger to WordPress. Not too hard. I managed to salvage the comments too.

I look forward to much more blogging about drums, rock and roll, music, recording and dumbass musicians.

Peace

Someone must have upped Pete Townshend’s medication

In this article The Who’s Pete Townshend blames wearing headphones in the recording studio for his hearing loss.

So touring for decades with The Who, standing next to the insane Keith Moon’s drum kit and standing in front of huge stacks of Hiwatt amps cranked to 11 had nothing to do with his hearing loss? I remember going to see The Who and there were actually disclaimers saying if you were in the first 30 rows in front of Pete’s rig you might experience hearing damage.

But no, it was the headphones…. Ok Pete.
